Modalities
There are more than 400 different modalities to understand personality, psychopathology, and therapy. All of them have the potential to be helpful to someone, yet not to everyone. Thus, HOW DO YOU CHOSE AN APPROACH THAT WILL WORK FOR YOU? To answer this question you should consider the following four factors:
1. a therapist’s skill in creating a therapeutic alliance (in essence, your feeling of comfort and safety with a therapist),
2. your level of distress and availability of social support,
3. your expectation that you will improve your condition(s) as the result of being in treatment, and
4. specific modality used.
It is important to notice that some modalities are more effective for certain disorders than others. There is a lot of stigma and misunderstanding about trauma. One of the most detrimental stigma about trauma is that it affects only the “weak.” Consequently, we included a video of Dr. Bessel van der Kolk who briefly, yet effectively, explains what is trauma.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR therapy is a considerably researched, effective psychotherapy modality that is proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.

Recognizing and Treating Moral Injury
Moral injury impacts a person’s sense of dignity when one’s self-esteem is eliminated by subjective violence to the person’s sense of worth. There are overlapping similarities and key differences between moral injury and PTSD.
